“I chose dermatology because our skin is an amazing organ. Not only is it the largest organ of the body, it has the very complicated and important job of protecting us. We all take our skin for granted until it isn’t working right. I enjoy being able to diagnose diseases by what they look like and by using my creativity to figure out a treatment plan that is specific to the individual patient. I enjoy all aspects of being a dermatologist, diagnosing and treating skin diseases, and providing surgical and cosmetic skin care.

“I feel so fortunate to have attended such prestigious universities. Emory University is widely known for its excellence in dermatology training. During my time there, I was exposed to complex dermatology diseases, including life-threatening skin disorders (pemphigus vulgaris, toxic epidermal necrosis), complex medical management and complicated surgical cases. I had extensive experience performing Mohs micrographic surgery and complex surgical closures, including flaps, grafts and other closure options. I enjoy combining aesthetic and surgical components of dermatology to each person’s unique facial structure to allow for optimal healing.

“I love getting to know my patients, then using that knowledge to design a treatment program specific to their needs. I also enjoy the creativity involved in the treatment of skin diseases. This includes medical treatment plans that work for the patient’s lifestyle, planning a surgical procedure for the best aesthetic outcome and customizing cosmetic procedures for a person’s individual needs. The skin is a very complex part of our bodies and I enjoy helping people achieve the healthiest skin possible.

“My patient-centered approach means tailoring my treatment recommendations to the patient’s wishes. I will listen to you and explain everything thoroughly. I believe in working with my patients to arrive at workable treatment plans. I hope to give my patients a feeling that they are cared for, listened to and treated with respect.

“I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I have two daughters who keep me very busy with their varied after-school activities. We enjoy anything outside, including biking, hiking, boating, playing badminton and just hanging out at home. As a Montana native, I love being back home.”

Patient Reviews

"This appointment was my first ever visit with a dermatologist. I wanted to get a couple of spots looked at and get a baseline on my overall skin health. Dr. Shannon was very gentle and explained everything she was doing. She answered my questions to my satisfaction."
