Removing Skin Growths at Big Sky Dermatology
Virtually everyone develops growths of some kind on their skin eventually. These growths can be associated with aging or genetics. Some people want noticeable non-cancerous growths removed for cosmetic reasons. We will also remove lesions if they are symptomatic. If you have a lesion that is bleeding, painful, red or itchy, or if our dermatologist suspects it to be cancerous, we will remove it.
There are many types of benign skin growths. They can be cysts, hemangiomas, seborrheic keratoses or actinic keratoses. If you have a changing skin lesion, especially a mole, you would be wise to have it evaluated by a dermatologist to check for skin cancer. We look for signs that include asymmetry, irregular borders, irregular pigmentation, size larger than a pencil tip eraser or itchiness.
Other types of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, typically present as slowly growing scaly bumps that may bleed and resist healing. If you have a changing lesion, you should see our dermatologist for an evaluation. Early detection is critical to curing skin cancer.
